A reader recently asked my advice on how to increase libido and it got me thinking and in turn doing some research. I listen to Dr. Jenn Berman’s XM Cosmo Radio Show religiously and she also got this question a few times. She’s just amazing and I can’t say enough great things about her and the advice that she gives. I digress….
Her article published in Health Magazine in 2010 states that a low libido (you’re not alone ladies — 1 in 10 females have a low libido) can be caused from medication, lifestyle and your relationship. These are the first things you should check before consulting a doctor.
Medication – ‘medications they may be taking to help their sex life may be hurting it….two common culprits are birth control pills and antidepressants.’
Lifestyle – ‘stress is a huge factor….’ and ‘if you smoke, stop’. Also ‘if you are a regular drinker, limit or abstain from alcohol. While a stiff drink can lower your inhibitions, alcohol is a depressant that can harm your sex drive. Make sure to get enough sleep and do your best to eat nutritious foods’
Relationship – ‘sexual desire is multi-dimensional and it is often said that men need to have sex to feel loved and women need to feel loved to have sex…’
Another blog favorite of mine is by the beautiful Brooke Burke named Modern Mom. She also wrote an article about libido which you can check out HERE. She pretty much says the same thing but I always feel a little more secure hearing it from a few sources.
I know it sounds like a lot of fun that you can’t have anymore, but if you take away the TV remote, put down the cigarettes and booze, and layoff those pills your sex life should be back to normal!
I hope this helps and please feel free to add a cure if you increased your libido in other ways!
